Back from the Country

The road trip was a blast! Our destination changed from what I had originally planned, but it was better than I had expected. We ended up going to the Osoyoos highlands/Kootenay boundary country with an elevation of 3000 feet above sea level.

I was taken to a very special and way out of the way provincial park, Conkle Lake provincial park. The park is off of highway 3 and up a logging road for about 25 km. It is not the easiest place to get to, especially if you do not have a 4x4, but I managed with my Jetta Trek and an hour and a half. The lake is serene and quiet, and that is what people come there for.

We were thinking about Kettle River provincial park, but a police chase in the campground with helicopters and squad cars for a drug dealer/car thief made us think otherwise. I was even pulled over and questioned as to why I was there... my jetta seemed out of place and I guess the officer was doing his job in a very polite and friendly manner I might add.

Osoyoos had a Jalopy car show happening, and Penticton had a classic car show, along with an Elvis show happening (a whole bunch of little Elvi running around) . It was busy everywhere we went, but not as busy as the coming weekend for the Canada Day celebrations I bet.

We stopped in at my two favourite wineries, Elephant Island an Orchard Winery and Dirty Laundry (formerly known as Scherzinger) which are the two best wineries in the Okanagan. Dirty Laundry was already sold out of most of their wines, and since they have been winning a tonne of medals they are in major demand.

The trip back was fun and interesting. By the time we reached Hope, B.C. we could feel the muggy heat from the Lower Mainland. Earlier that day in Osoyoos it was 38 degrees Celcius and it was a dry tolerable heat we became accustomed to, not the muggy heat we encountered entering the city. We made it into the city by evening, and have already been planning our next trip.

A road trip is imminent this weekend. A quick drive up to Penticton, B.C. and an overnight stay at the Shady Tree campground near Skaha lake. The trip will allow some time to check out the local wineries like Elephant Island Orchard Winery and Dirty Laundry Winery (formerly known as Scherzinger Winery). A jaunt over to Osoyoos and OK falls and the surrounding areas will be a tonne of fun :)
